PostSubject: Formations in 2K Lists   Fri Jun 05, 2015 7:06 am

Hey guys,

Just looking at possibilities for new armies and maybe being a bit dense, could I run 2 or more Formations in a single list as long as they are under the required points?

As far as I know yes. The newer books are even made up of multiple formations making your detachment, see necrons and daemonkin.

Rule book says you can take as many detatchments/formations as you like, so long as you full fill the minimum requirements. So you could have 3 combined arms detachments if you liked.

Cool, so I could in theory run a single Formation and then take whatever else I wanted to up to the agreed points limit (I guess it would count as an Unbound List then?)

As long as you fill the minimum requirement for them all then your still bound.

If you did a combined arms detachment and an allied detachment, meeting all minimum requirements, then you'd be bound.

However, if you took a combined arms and then 3 daemon princes, then the whole army would count as unbound.

So basically you just need to find the formations/detachments that give you what you need. Like you could do a combined arms and a knight Lancer formation to make a bound list that gave you 3 superheavies and some marines which would count as a bound list

BUUT you could also just do an army of formations as long as one of them is your primary detachment. this is how the new Decurion things work like in the daemonkin and necron book.

I'm curious as to how the daemonkin formations play. I just don't have enough blood thrusters to test it Crying or Very sad

True Rich but then you couldn't take anything that was not listed in that formation... so if you want a squad of terminators and they aren't on your formations, then the second you include that squad you are unbound. But yes, if you can find formations that cover all the things you want, there is nothing to stop you fielding pure formations, a CAD and a formation, multiple CADs etc...

The best one Rich is the bikes and dogs by far. I just need to get some bikes. Free cannons are pretty sweet too but summoning winged stuff is a waste of time.

There has been a lot of talk about the summoning flying things. Still not sure what is the correct way.

I'm not a fan of bikers is the only trouble with that formation

Me either on the bikes but its a powerful formation if used right with MSU's, bikes with lots of meltas and its fast which is the only way we seem to be able to get anything out of combat atm, charge it in fast or die to shooting.

As Mickey said to Rocky, "you need speed, greasy fast speed, ya bum"

Get your marines out chasing chickens, I'm sure they'll be more survivable...
